A stretch of Peachtree Street in Midtown is back open after gunfire erupted overnight.

Atlanta police responded to a pedestrian robbery just before 9 p.m. Tuesday and encountered a man who matched the description of the robber at Peachtree and 8th streets, Officer Jarius Daugherty told AJC.com in an emailed statement.

Police fired once in his direction after he pulled out an object “perceived to be a handgun,” Daugherty said.

The man, who was not hit, was later arrested on unspecified charges.

Police have not released his name.

We’re working to learn more.
