A man who has a history of robbing taxi drivers was arrested Friday following a fiery crash, Atlanta police said.

According to a police report, a cab driver was sitting outside the Landmark Diner on Luckie Street waiting on a customer when Mario Davis jumped in the backseat with a gun and told him to drive.

The victim then jumped out of the car at the intersection of Peachtree Street and Andrew Young International Boulevard, according to the report, and Davis drove to the freeway.

Georgia State Patrol caught up with Davis on the I-75/I-85 southbound ramp at Langford Parkway and applied the PIT maneuver, bumping into the side of the car, to stop him. The car caught on fire, but it was put out by Atlanta fire officials.

Davis, who was not injured in the crash, was identified by the victim and arrested.

Police said Davis had five outstanding warrants for armed robbery and a history of robbing cab drivers.

He is in the Fulton County jail on aggravated assault, armed robbery and gun charges.
