An Arizona man admitted to vandalizing several cars because he was upset over the end of a romantic relationship, police said.
Austin Wilmers, 22, is a suspect in 16 car vandalism cases that happened in late August, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office told azcentral. Car owners reported having their tires slashed, fuel lines cut and windows smashed. Approximately $5,000 in damage has been reported to authorities, azcentral reported.
Wilmers was arrested Monday. He allegedly admitted to vandalizing the cars because he had just broken up with his girlfriend, the Sheriff's Office said. Wilmers apologized for his actions in a letter.
A second person believed to have been involved in the car vandalism spree is being sought by authorities.
