Police are searching for a man who opened fire at a west Atlanta house party early Monday and escaped on the Atlanta Beltline.

The victim, Ismaael Aleem, 35, of Powder Springs, was found at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds when Atlanta police responded to reports of a person shot around 12:30 a.m. He was stable when he was taken to a local hospital.

The incident took place at a house in the 1100 block of Harwell Street, which is next to the Atlanta Beltline Westside Trail.

Atlanta police spokesman Officer Steve Avery said Aleem told investigators he was attending a gathering at the house when an argument broke out between the suspect and other attendees. The dispute escalated to gunfire, but Aleem did not know why he was targeted, according to police.

The shooter headed to the trail, which connects with Lionel Hampton Trail one block to the north and runs south to West End, Avery said.

Police are searching for the suspect, described as 5-foot-9 and 260 pounds with a low fade haircut. He was wearing a black shirt and red pants when he left the scene, police said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the anonymous Crime Stoppers Atlanta tip line at 404-577-8477 or online at StopCrimeATL.com.

Tipsters can be eligible for rewards of up to $2,000.
