A police officer boxed in a suspect in a stolen car after two vehicles were hit in northeast Atlanta on Thursday night, police said.

The suspect, who has not been identified, stole the vehicle from the Exxon gas station at 1161 Ponce De Leon Avenue, Atlanta police confirmed. The man allegedly struck a vehicle while leaving the parking lot before hitting another one on the street about 8:30 p.m.

The driver of the second vehicle that was hit followed the suspect while calling 911, police said. Officers found the stolen vehicle on Caroline Street and were able to stop the vehicle near the Edgewood Retail District.

Before the man was taken into custody, he allegedly drove the stolen vehicle into the patrol car, damaging it, police said.

The officer involved sustained minor injuries that were treated at the scene. The suspect, who was alert, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, and multiple charges are pending.
