A man was found shot to death at a Gwinnett County apartment complex, apparently after a physical altercation with at least one other person, police said.

About 2:30 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to shots fired at the Durant at Sugarloaf apartments on St. Marlowe Drive near Lawrenceville, Gwinnett Detective Sam Flynn said in a statement.

The victim, identified by police as 32-year-old Marlon Walker, had at least one gunshot wound to the chest, Flynn said.

Officers gave aid, but Walker was pronounced dead at the scene, Flynn said.

“Witnesses described a physical altercation between at least two men in the parking lot prior to the shooting,” Flynn said. “After the victim was shot, the suspect or suspects fled the scene.”

No other details were released.

Police were still investigating at the apartments at 10 a.m., Channel 2 Action News reported.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact detectives at 770-513-5300.

Anonymous tipsters should contact Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477 or visit crimestoppersatlanta.org. A $2,000 reward is offered for information that leads to an arrest and indictment.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
