More than two and half years after a Powder Springs mother was found slain in her home with her infant daughter inside the house, police have arrested and charged an acquaintance with murder in the cold case.

The baby’s father, Joshua Maurice Gibson, 27, also has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during commission of a crime, Cobb County District Attorney Vic Reynolds and Powder Springs Police Chief John Robison jointly announced Friday.

Gibson was arrested Friday morning and was being held without bond in the Cobb County Jail.

Danielle Marshall, 23, was found in her home on Palomino Drive in the early morning of Jan. 14, 2013. Her daughter was in the home with her but was unhurt.

Gibson, who called police to the home, said Marshall was not answering the door when he went there and that he could hear the baby crying inside.

Investigators had asked for the public's help with the case after they had conducted dozens of interviews and followed several leads that did not result in an arrest.

New information was found and additional witnesses were interviewed, providing a break the case, the authorities said.

“It is a relief to me that it appears solved,” Robison said. “Nothing will ever bring back that child’s mother, but we look forward to justice being served.”

The slaying was the only homicide in Powder Springs in 2013, Robison said.
