Atlanta police are investigating after a man was shot in the head and killed Wednesday afternoon near the Lindbergh MARTA station.

Officers responded to a call about a drive-by shooting in the 2400 block of Camellia Lane in northeast Atlanta just before 12:50 p.m., Atlanta police spokesman Officer Steve Avery said. The shooting occurred about one street away from the train station.

When police arrived, they discovered a 42-year-old man on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Avery said.

Few details about the incident have been released, but investigators said they are searching for a dark gray Jeep Compass in connection with the shooting.

Authorities also said the suspect and victim knew each other, ruling out the possibility of a random shooting near the busy transit station.

A MARTA spokeswoman said the shooting did not occur on MARTA property and that train and bus service was not affected.
