A Boca Raton man, upset that he wasn’t invited to a barbecue, was arrested after he allegedly fired five shots into the air from his car as he drove in the neighborhood where the cookout was being held, according to a police report.
Bryan Andrew Morejon, 24, is facing a charge of firing a weapon from a vehicle and was released Friday from the Palm Beach County Jail after posting a $5,000 bond.
The shooting took place on Oct. 24 and Morejon was arrested Thursday. The arrest report does not indicate why Morejon wasn’t arrested earlier.
No one saw Morejon fire the weapon, but witnesses said they saw a white Ford Crown Victoria speeding away after they heard gunshots. Shell casings from a 9mm firearm were found at the scene.
The day after the shooting, a neighborhood resident met with Boca Raton police and said his daughter recently had a “falling out” with Morejon due to his “erratic behavior,” the report said. The daughter said she “believes Bryan was upset with the fact she was having a barbecue” on Oct. 25 and Morejon was not invited.
Police were also told by the woman that Morejon owned a 9mm pistol and that he used a white Ford Crown Victoria that belonged to his employer.
Morejon admitted to detectives that he fired five shots from his Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun after a confrontation a couple of days before with a friend in the neighborhood, the report said.
Morejon said he was “blowing off steam” when he fired the gun.
