One man was killed overnight during a gun battle between two people at a southeast Atlanta apartment complex, authorities said.

Officers were dispatched to the Trestletree Village Apartments in the 900 block of Confederate Court about 1:30 a.m. Saturday after receiving reports of gunshots, Atlanta police spokeswoman Marla Jean Rooker said.

They arrived to find two people with gunshot wounds, one man who was unresponsive and another who had been shot in the leg, she said. The unresponsive man, who was still holding a handgun, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The surviving victim, Rooker said, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital but refused to cooperate with investigators.

“Based on evidence gathered at the scene, this incident appears to have been a gun battle between two individuals,” she said.

Authorities have not released the names of either man involved. The investigation is ongoing.
