A man died in a crash in Gwinnett County on Monday after losing control of his vehicle while trying to pass other cars before a lane merge, police said.

Harry Nguyen, 24, of Duluth, was driving east on Old Norcross Road before Buford Highway in unincorporated Norcross around 7 p.m., Gwinnett County police said in a news release.

He was driving a black 2004 Lexus IS300 in the right lane, trying to pass several cars before his lane merged with another lane, the release said. A Snellville man and a passenger were in a white 2000 Chevrolet Astrovan that was traveling in the opposite direction.

Nguyen lost control of his car and drove into the westbound lane before his car was struck on its passenger side by the Astrovan, the release said.

Nguyen died as a result of the wreck. The two people in the Astrovan suffered minor injuries.

An investigation is ongoing.
