A man was killed and a woman was injured after police say a gunman followed them to their south Fulton County hotel room and opened fire late Tuesday night.
Police arrested Diontye Scott on Wednesday afternoon but have not determined a motive, according to Channel 2 Action News. He faces murder and aggravated assault charges.
Antonio Veal, 25, and Caitlyn Payne, 19, were headed to their room about 9:30 p.m. at the Garden Inn Suites in Union City when police say Scott shot them at close range, Channel 2 reported.
Veal was shot in the chest and back and Payne was shot from behind as the two tried to shield themselves from the attack, according to the news station. The couple were taken to the hospital, where Veal died. Payne was undergoing surgery at Grady Memorial Hospital, Channel 2 reported.
Surveillance footage may have led to Scott’s arrest.
“He wasn’t worried about being seen by anyone in the area,” Union City police officer Jerald January told Channel 2. “(He was) definitely bold, definitely dangerous.”
Police told Channel 2 he had a female accomplice. Her description has not been released.
