Twenty men were arrested in a coordinated crackdown on pandering at motels in Conyers and Covington in the last week, police said.

Eight arrests were made at a motel in Covington on May 29 and 12 more were made at a motel in Conyers on June 2. The police departments from the two cities worked together on the stings.

The busts followed similar operations run last year by Conyers police which they cite for helping reduce crime at local motels and throughout the city.

Authorities said they are trying to address violent crimes that are sometimes connected to prostitution.

“Not only are female prostitutes being targeted, assaulted and robbed,” Conyers police chief Gene Wilson said, “the johns intending on meeting for sex can be met with an armed man and robbed of their cash or worse.”
