An Acworth man who shot himself after shooting his estranged wife at the couple’s home Thursday night has died.

The woman, whose name has not been released by police, was in intensive care at WellStar Kennestone Hospital, Acworth police spokeswoman officer Youlanda Leverette said in a news release.

James Scott Bland, 47, died during the night after shooting himself in the chest, police said Friday. He had shot his wife three times, Leverette said.

Channel 2 Action News reported Friday that the woman had obtained a temporary protective order against her husband, which he recently was arrested for violating. He was accused of obtaining a cellphone app that enabled him to track the whereabouts of his wife and children.

He bonded out of jail late Monday, Channel 2 said.

Police got a 911 call around 6:45 p.m. Thursday to go to the couple’s home on Archer Place, where they found them both shot in the driveway.

The couple’s two children were not at home at the time of the shootings, Leverette said.

Detectives continue to investigate the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call Acworth police at 770-974-1232.
