Police have identified a "person of interest" in connection with the weekend shooting death of a 28-year-old man in the downtown Athens area, the Athens Banner-Herald reported.

In their investigation of the slaying of Daniel Joseph Macias, authorities released a clip from a surveillance video, according to the report. The video shows the man police are trying to identify.

Macias, a restaurant server, was shot about 2:30 a.m. Saturday, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported. About 20 uniformed officers swarmed the area right after the incident, the Banner-Herald reported.

“Historically, this sort of violent crime is personal,” Athens-Clarke County police Capt. Jerry Saulters said in the report.

There have been three homicides in Athens in 2016.
