Police said they believe speeding may have killed two people in a Monday morning wreck in Snellville, leaving the car split in half.

Tahir Thomas, 42, of Decatur, and Gerald McDonald, 52, of Snellville, were heading northbound on Mink Livsey Road in a 2005 gray Nissan Altima shortly after 2 a.m. when the crash happened.

The car flew off the right shoulder, rotated counter clockwise and struck a large tree outside a home, police said.

The car split in two with the front half of the car still traveling and the rear wedged between trees.

Thomas, the driver, was ejected from the car. Both Thomas and McDonald died from their injuries.

Police did not say where Thomas and McDonald were going at the time of the crash.
