Patient goes into cardiac arrest after visitor injects him with unknown substance

Officials with Northside Hospital confirmed they have launched an investigation into the incident.

A Sandy Springs hospital patient went into cardiac arrest after being injected with an unknown pink substance by one of his visitors, police confirmed.

Sandy Springs police told Channel 2 Action News the patient was on the 6th floor of Northside Hospital July 27.

Police said someone used a syringe to inject a 50-year-old man from Brookhaven with an unknown pink substance, immediately causing him to go into cardiac arrest, Channel 2 reported.

He survived, and a nurse called 911, police confirmed.

The incident report, obtained by Channel 2, said the incident was not domestic, but police told the news station the visitor and the victim knew each other and lived in the same Brookhaven apartment. Their relationship is unknown.

Northside Hospital sent a statement to the news station that said:

“The safety and security of our patients are most important to us. It is our understanding that the suspect in question was the patient’s visitor. Upon discovering the incident, hospital staff immediately contacted Sandy Springs Police, who are conducting an investigation. We are cooperating fully.”

Police told Channel 2 they have named a suspect in the incident, but they haven’t release a description of him or his name yet.

The investigation is ongoing.
