A nurse who worked at the Troup County jail is facing charges after she admitted to having a sexual relationship with an inmate, officials said.

Dorathy Pike, 26, is charged with improper sexual contact by employee or agent after she told investigators she had been having a physical relationship with someone who was in custody at the jail.

Pike, who was employed by We Care, had been working in the Troup medical unit on a contract basis for about six months, sheriff’s office spokesman Sgt. Stewart Smith said.

Sheriff James Woodruff received the allegation that a nurse was having “an improper relationship with an inmate inside the jail facility,” Smith said.

Investigators met with Pike, and after several minutes she admitted to having a relationship with an inmate that “had become physical and sexual in nature.”

Pike was booked into the Troup County jail, where she remains on a $5,000 bond.

In a statement, Woodruff said he takes these claims “very serious and will not tolerate any misconduct by any person working for or representing the Troup County Sheriff’s Office and will ensure that they are prosecuted to the highest extent of the law.”
