A former NFL player was found not guilty of drug charges Thursday, three years after a raid at his Columbus gym, the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reported.

Dantrell Savage, 40, was believed to have possessed methamphetamine when Columbus police’s special operation unit raided Savage Fitness Evolution in October 2015, the paper reported.

Roughly 26 grams were found — one gram was found under a desk and the other 25 were found in the battery portion of a flashlight sitting on a shelf. A police informant had twice purchased drugs from someone living in the gym.

Savage, a former running back for the Kansas City Chiefs and Carolina Panthers who played college football at Oklahoma State, was arrested along with friend Jessie James Smith Sr.

Smith, who was allowed to live in the gym by Savage, admitted during the trial the meth was his, the Ledger-Enquirer reported. Savage told authorities he didn’t know Smith had the drugs.

After the raid, Savage closed his gym.

He still faces misdemeanor charges from a Friday traffic stop. Authorities brought a drug-sniffing dog to check Savage’s car, but no drugs were found.

His attorney said Savage filmed the incident and posted it on Facebook out of fear for his safety, according to the paper.

He faces misdemeanor charges of obstruction, having a cracked windshield and failure to maintain lane.
