Florida middle school teacher accused of stealing at Target, found with drugs

Vicars

A middle school teacher in Daytona was arrested on Friday after police said she stole more than 32 items from Target and was found with a bag of narcotics.

Kimberly Vicars, 46, faces charges of grand theft and trafficking in hydrocodone. She is an eighth grade language arts teacher at David C. Hinson Middle School, The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports.

Police said Vicars tried to leave the Target store with more than $500 worth of items by pulling off the tags and hiding them in her purse. When officers searched Vicars they found 29 hydrocodone pills without a prescription--adding up to about 12 grams.

Officers took Vicars to the Volusia County Jail and she was released two days later after posting an $11,500 bail, according to News-Journal.

A school district spokeswoman told News-Journal that Vicars has been reassigned to a school position that involves no contact with students.
