A Gainesville mother accused of child cruelty is in the Hall County Jail after being indicted on new charges Thursday.

Grace An, 18, has been charged with simple battery and misdemeanor obstruction of an officer after a grand jury indictment. An was indicted after “clenching her fist and striking (Hall County sheriff’s officer John Bustamante) with her elbow,” the Gainesville Times reported.

The original indictment stemmed from an incident Nov. 11, when An was accused of depriving a child of oxygen. She allegedly wrapped her 16-month-old son in cellophane and packing tape. According to authorities, the child was found in the backseat of a car with his hands, mouth and feet bound with the packing material.
