One man was in custody after allegedly stealing a vehicle and driving erratically on the East-West Connector, running red lights and hitting two other cars Thursday night, Cobb County police said.

And officers have a four-legged friend to thank.

The suspect, whose name was not released, allegedly stole a vehicle in the area of Atlanta Road and I-285, according to Officer Alicia Chilton.

“The suspect then began running red lights and driving at high rates of speed, then collided into one vehicle, and then another vehicle, and then fled on foot,” Chilton said in an emailed statement.

K-9 units were brought to the scene to help find the man, who was located by a police dog shortly before 7 p.m.

The man’s name and charges were not released late Thursday.
