A motorcyclist was killed after he collided with a motor coach in Austell early Monday morning, Cobb County police said.

The crash occurred about 6:30 a.m. on Hartman Road just north of Lake Careco Road, Cobb County police Officer Sarah O’Hara said.

According to police, a white 2007 Motor Coach Industries motorbus, driven by Fertissue Thomas, 45, of Morrow, was turning right into the private driveway of Word of Faith Family Worship Cathedral.

At the same time, a black 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by James Dennis, 20, of Temple, was approaching the bus from the south, O’Hara said.

Dennis’ bike slammed into the motorbus as it was turning. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

A witness at the scene told police Dennis passed her at a “high rate of speed,” O’Hara said.

Investigators believe excessive speed was a contributing factor in the crash and do not anticipate filing charges.
