A 40-year-old man was killed when his motorcycle left the road and hit a guard rail in Athens, police said.

Jason McElhannon of Madison County was ejected in the single-vehicle crash Tuesday on Collins Industrial Boulevard near Athena Drive, police spokesman Epifanio Rodriguez said.

McElhannon’s Yamaha was heading southeast on Collins Industrial Boulevard, Rodriguez said. He passed a car on a double yellow line as they came down a hill through a curve to the left.

He merged back into his lane, then went off the road to the right and hit the guard rail, Rodriguez said.

McElhannon was thrown from the motorcycle and landed in the road. He was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.
