A mother was sexually assaulted and threatened in her Clayton County apartment last week, police confirmed to AJC.com.

The victim, a teacher, told Channel 2 Action News she left the Battle Creek Village Apartments in Jonesboro to get groceries around 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 23, and the man must have slipped into her apartment while she was gone.

“I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy,” the woman told Channel 2. “He was choking me. He stated he was going to slash my throat and stab my son several times if I didn’t comply.”

It’s the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s policy not to identify sexual assault victims.

She told the news station her 5-year-old son was sleeping in another room during the incident, and she said her attacker wore black pants, a black hoodie and covered his face.

She also said he apologized several times before stealing her iPhone and leaving.

“He said (I’m so sorry) at least about three or four times,” she said.

Tenants at the apartment complex told Channel 2 they weren’t notified about the incident. An apartment complex manager wouldn’t speak to the news station about whether tenants were notified, but she said, “We are actually working with the police on that. We don't have any information about it but we are working with them.”

The victim told the news station she has moved out of the apartment complex.

Clayton County police spokeswoman Ashanti Marbury told AJC.com there is no evidence connecting this sexual assault to five rapes that have been linked nearby within the past two years by DNA evidence. She said evidence from this case has been sent to the GBI for testing.
