A Cobb County mother was arrested after she punched her 1-year-old son repeatedly, lifted him over her head and threw him onto a garage floor, police said.

Melina Rebecca Whyte, 26, allegedly said, “I am going to kill that baby,” while punching him on his side Friday at a home on Heatherwood Drive in Marietta, according to an arrest warrant obtained Wednesday by AJC.com.

The warrant also said she squeezed the child and twisted his arm.

The assault left Whyte’s son with a skull fracture, a contusion, a hematoma and two lacerations to his liver, police said. The current condition of the baby has not been released.

Whyte was charged with two counts each of aggravated assault with intent to murder, aggravated battery, first-degree cruelty to children and second-degree cruelty to children, according to records.

The incident occurred in front of her 7-year-old, police said.

Whyte is being held in the county jail without bond.
