Brown scored a couple of suspects when a 30-year-old man and his 15-year-old brother were arrested near Brown’s multimillion-dollar home, deputies said.
Jeremy Carlton Brown Jr. was charged with three counts of theft by taking mail, third-degree forgery and contributing to delinquency of a minor, deputies said. The teen was charged with three counts of theft by taking mail and third-degree forgery.
Investigators said they recovered $16,000 in checks belonging to other victims and $3,000 in cash from the suspects.
Jeremy Brown was taken to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center, and his brother was turned over to the Division of Family and Children Services until a family member could be contacted, deputies said.
The deputies’ statement said the suspects were from Miami, but Bibb County jail records show Jeremy Brown with an address on Clairmont Road in Atlanta. He has been released on $4,450 bond.
Kevin Brown, who played college baseball at Georgia Tech from 1984 until 1986, was a thorn in the Braves’ side in the 1997 (with the Florida Marlins) and 1998 (with the San Diego Padres) postseasons, going 3-1 against them and keeping them from the World Series both years.
He retired after the 2005 season, his 19th in the major leagues. Two years later, he was inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame.
