A woman has several scrapes and bruises after riding an e-scooter in Midtown over the weekend. However, she didn’t fall — she was dragged by a thief.
Maddison Grigsby told Atlanta police she was riding the dock-less scooter in the 600 block of Argonne Avenue on Friday morning when a vehicle pulled up beside her. A suspect then reached from the passenger-side window and grabbed her purse, knocking her to the ground.
“I don’t remember much except hitting pavement,” she told Channel 2 Action News. “As far as getting mugged on a scooter, it seems laughable that would be a possibility.”
At some point, the thief lets go of the purse, leaving Grigsby with bruises and cuts on her hands, arms, leg and head, police said. A witness heard her cries for help and called 911.
The vehicle fled the scene without the purse, police said. Grigsby was taken to Atlanta Medical Center and was released later Monday. She told Channel 2 she’s lucky, since she didn’t break anything.
“It could have been so much worse,” she said. “I could have gone under the car. I could have crushed my arm. I just feel thankful it wasn’t worse than it was.”
Police are investigating this as an attempted strong-arm robbery. Officers told the news station they have not identified the suspects, and descriptions were not available.
