Two men are facing charges after investigators said one of them is responsible for the deaths of three people whose remains were found in South Georgia and the other helped cover up the crime.

Jonathan Douglas Vann, 20, and Kayanta Green, 25, were arrested in connection with the deaths of Bobbie Lynn Moore, 22; Wayne Hackle, 27; and Mercedes Maelyn Hackle, 17.

Those three people had been missing since March 12, authorities said.

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office said a car belonging to Moore was found on fire in the area of the Alapaha River near the Atkinson County line about 5:30 a.m. The agency reached out to the GBI for help investigating the incident.

Attempts to reach the three missing people were fruitless, as they were “not responding to attempts to make contact,” the GBI said.

Then, two bodies were found.

The GBI, the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office and multiple other agencies, including the Atkinson County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia State Patrol and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, were involved in the discovery and sent the remains to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsies and identification. The remains of a third person were found Thursday, the GBI said.

Charges have been filed against the men in two different counties in connection with the apparent murders of Moore, Wayne Hackle and Mercedes Maelyn Hackle. The GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Macon confirmed the identities of the remains Thursday.

In Berrien County, where Moore’s burning car was found, Vann is charged with malice murder and arson, while Greene faces charges of malice murder and concealing the death of another person. In Atkinson County, Greene faces two counts of malice murder and one count of concealing the death of another person. Vann faces one count of malice murder and concealing the death of another person.
