Atlanta Police Homicide Detective Summer Benton testified Thursday she wasn’t interested in being on a reality television show.

But the defense in the Victoria Rickman murder trial accused the detective of playing to the cameras when she arrived with the crew from “Inside Homicide” to investigate the fatal shooting of Will Carter in Sept. 2013. Benton, according to the defense, rushed to judgement when she dismissed Rickman’s claim that she shot and killed Carter, her former fiance, to save her own life.

Prosecutors say Rickman lied about Carter raping her and allege she likely killed him out of anger, not fear.

It’s just one of the many subplots in this salacious trial unfolding in DeKalb County.
