A man wanted in connection with two metro Atlanta Publix robberies was arrested last week in Gwinnett County.

Authorities caught up with Isaiah Moultrie Alexander, 26, of Macon, at the Red Roof Inn on Brook Hollow Parkway in Norcross on Friday. He was taken into custody without incident with the assistance of Gwinnett County SWAT.

Police had been looking for him since July 26, when authorities identified him as the man who pretended to be a customer at a McDonough Publix earlier that month. Police said he drank a can of beer while he pushed a cart through the aisles of the store in the 2100 block of Ga. 20, then forced a manager to open a safe at gunpoint.

He made off with $17,000 before escaping through a back door near the loading dock, AJC.com previously reported.

The latest robbery happened Aug. 1 at a Publix on the corner of Duluth Highway and Lawrenceville Suwanee Road. Again, cash was taken, Cpl. Michele Pihera told AJC.com.

Alexander was quickly identified as the suspect in that incident and warrants were issued for his arrest on charges of armed robbery and two counts of aggravated assault. He is now being held in the Gwinnett County jail without bond, jail records show.

Henry County has also placed a hold on Alexander. He is expected to face his Henry charges once his Gwinnett case is disposed.

The incident happened so fast, many employees said they didn't know about it until it was over.
