Authorities arrested a man accused of leading them on a chase in an ambulance

A man was arrested Thursday after he led a trooper on a chase in an ambulance in DeKalb County, the Georgia State Patrol said.

Kevin Spivey and a female passenger were spotted in the ambulance crossing the gore on Hill Street onto I-20 East, officials said.

The trooper did not see a state tag and attempted to pull over the ambulance, which fled from authorities, the GSP said.

Officials said Spivey, 37, eventually exited onto Flat Shoals Road and hit a car. He then hit a parked car and a telephone pole before he was arrested, GSP said.

Spivey had a suspended license and warrants for larceny out of Forest Park, according to the GSP. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital after the pursuit.

He faces charges of crossing the gore, leaving the scene of an accident, fleeing and attempting to elude an officer and failing to have a tag or insurance.

Authorities also detained the female passenger but she was released and not charged.
