A man shot in Atlanta’s Vine City neighborhood Monday night ran into a Chick-fil-A restaurant seeking help, police told Channel 2 Action News.

The victim, who has not been identified, was shot in the back on a busy stretch of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. A witness told Channel 2 there were several people, including children, walking along the street when gunshots rang out just before 7:30 p.m.

“The shooter had no heart for the children that were out here,” witness Ashley Parker said. He was doing renovations at the nearby Mr. Everything Cafe when he said a bullet crashed through the window.

He saw a young man bleeding from the back and running toward Chick-fil-A, Parker told the news station. Atlanta police confirmed to Channel 2 the victim entered the restaurant looking for someone to help him.

Atlanta police are now searching for the shooter, but have not released a description. The victim’s condition was not known Tuesday.
