Man shot, killed at DeKalb County apartment complex

A man is dead after someone shot him multiple times at a DeKalb County apartment complex, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Tyrese Washington, 24, was killed at the Polo Club Apartments on Ashley Creek Circle in Stone Mountain, the news station reported.

The fatal shooting happened Aug. 31 behind a building near the playground, officials said.

Washington was found shot multiple times in his head.

“Not only did they shoot him,” his mother Latrice Cushion told Channel 2. “They left him in a park at 11:30 at night and they took his phone. So what goes through my mind is how long did he lay there? If he had his phone, could he have called to save his own life?”

Police told Channel 2 Washington was staying with a friend who lived in the complex. Investigators believe he was meeting someone in an empty apartment on the property.

Witnesses told police they heard between five and six gunshots.

Investigators aren’t sure what led to the shooting, Channel 2 reported. Officials told the news station they don’t believe the incident started as a robbery, as the man still had his wallet when his body was found.
