A man was shot in the head early Saturday following a two-car collision on the Downtown Connector, authorities said.

Officers responded to the road rage shooting near Martin Luther King Jr. Drive about 4:30 a.m., Atlanta police spokesman Sgt. John Chafee said.

According to investigators, a driver and two friends were getting on the interstate when their vehicle collided with a silver Chevrolet Camaro.

“After the collision, an occupant of the Camaro fired several shots at the victims’ vehicle,” Chafee said.

The driver of the car was struck in head, but appeared to be the only person injured.  He was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital and listed as “stable,” according to police. The Camaro was abandoned near the scene of the shooting but the suspect has not been located. It’s unclear if the vehicle had been stolen.

The incident remains under investigation, police said.
