A man was sentenced last week to two years behind bars for stealing $65,000 worth of supplies from an Athens middle school, court records show.

Eric Aguilar, 29, of Crawford, pleaded guilty last Friday to two counts of felony theft and three counts of misdemeanor theft, according to Clarke County court records. Sierra Yuhas, his 34-year-old wife and alleged accomplice, faces two felony theft charges, and her case is still pending.

The two were accused of using their daughter as a lookout while stealing 60 iPads, an ice maker, band and orchestra instruments, copper wiring and a meat slicer from W.E. Coile Middle School, AJC.com previously reported.

Aguilar worked for a contractor at the school while it was being renovated in July 2018. He was spotted one night on school property with Yuhas and their child allegedly serving as lookouts while Aguilar stole items from the school.

The couple was arrested the next month at a motel in Banks County, AJC.com previously reported. The Division of Family and Children Services was called to the scene to assist with their child.

After his prison time, he will also spend 13 years on probation, court records show.

Yuhas remains in the Clarke County Jail without bond, jail records show. Her trial is tentatively scheduled to begin on May 20, according to court records.
