A man was robbed and pistol-whipped six times by two thieves while walking home from the Oakland City MARTA station last week, authorities said.
Quintavius Mitchell, 23, was walking in the 1100 block of Oakland Lane last Tuesday about 11 p.m. when two masked men jumped out of a silver car and told him to get on the ground, according to an Atlanta police incident report obtained by AJC.com.
The men demanded his phone, wallet and bookbag before hitting him six times on the head with a gun, the report said. They stole the items and drove off.
A second robbery was reported at the same address shortly before, and police believe the same suspects are responsible. No description of the suspects was available.
Mitchell told Channel 2 Action News he was returning home from night classes he takes at a technical college, where he’s studying to become a heating and air conditioning technician.
“When you work hard for something (and) somebody comes and steals it from you, it’s like you get kind of upset from it,” he told Channel 2.
His mother, Tameka Mitchell, told the news station that her son stumbled into her home, bleeding from his head, after the incident. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and has since been released.
“That is my worst fear — losing my son, because he’s my only son,” she said. “He was bleeding real bad.”
The mother and son decided to move to another neighborhood after the robbery, they told Channel 2.
