A 30-year-old northwest Georgia man was arrested Tuesday after a search of his home turned up pornographic material involving children, authorities said.

Damon Scarlett’s home in LaFayette was searched by GBI agents, members of Homeland Security Investigations and deputies from the Walker County Sheriff’s Office, the GBI said Wednesday in a news release.

Walker County is about 100 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta.

Officials said the investigation into Scarlett is part of the GBI’s efforts to identify suspects accused of sexually exploiting children by distributing child pornography online.

Scarlett faces one count of child molestation, possession of material depicting a minor sexually and creating or possessing a visual medium depicting a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct, records show. He remains held at the Walker County Jail without bond.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about Scarlett’s case or other instances of child exploitation is asked to call the GBI’s Computer Crimes and Child Exploitation Unit at 404-270-8870.
