Atlanta police are investigating after a  fight in a nightclub turned into a shooting that sent a man to a hospital Sunday morning.

The large fight started inside the Gold Room on Piedmont Road shortly before 2 a.m., according to Atlanta police spokeswoman Officer TaSheena Brown.

Security officers working at the nightclub told everyone involved in the fight to leave and escorted them to the parking lot, she said.

The dispute spilled out into the parking lot, where it escalated into a shooting. Multiple vehicles were damaged by the gunshots, Brown said.

When Atlanta police arrived at the scene they found a man who had been shot multiple times in the abdomen. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, Brown said.

Police are not sure how the fight started who fired the shots. An investigation is ongoing.
