An Atlanta man has been indicted for allegedly causing a crash on I-85 South that killed a single mother of five on her way to a job interview.

Juan Roberto Marquez, 44, is charged with vehicular homicide and reckless driving in the August 2017 crash that killed 32-year-old Jessica Jose, Coweta County District Attorney Herb Cranford said.

Marquez pulled in front of a tractor-trailer on the interstate and stopped his vehicle “to consult with the driver of a semi-truck,” Georgia State Patrol spokeswoman Tracey Watson told AJC.com after the crash.

According to reports, a rock had cracked Marquez’s windshield, and he thought the rock came from the truck.

Jose’s SUV slammed into the back of the truck, and she died at the scene.

Before the crash, Jose, of Grantville, had set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for one of her children, a 2-year-old boy who broke a bone in his leg and needed full-time care.

“I can't leave his side so I have been out of work since this accident,” she wrote.

Marquez was released on $25,000 bond a month later —  on condition that he not drive.

Marquez’s attorney, Emmanuel West, told the judge that the father of six, a real estate contractor, had been unable to work since the crash.
