A 94-year-old man was shot and killed Thursday evening during a robbery at his DeKalb County home, police said Friday.

Officers were called to the home on River Road in Ellenwood about 9:30 p.m., DeKalb police spokeswoman Michaela Vincent said.

They arrived to find 94-year-old Frank Collins with a gunshot wound. Collins was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.

“We do believe the male was shot inside his home,” Vincent said Friday morning. “We are investigating and interviewing witnesses right now, trying to put the pieces together. It was an unfortunate situation.”

Police believe several suspects were involved in the incident. As of Friday afternoon, those suspects had not been identified.

Several other people inside the home suffered minor injuries during the robbery, but they were not shot, police said. Investigators said they do not believe the robbery was random.
