"She loved cats, and he knew that,'' officers said after arresting Jeffery Justice for the murder.
Justice lives close to Linda Allbritton, and witnesses said he would often help her in their Birmingham neighborhood.
Police Lt. Sean Edwards told Al.com, "She would go around picking up stray cats, and he would help her recover them."
Cops say the woman’s body was found in her apartment Sunday after a break-in was reported.
Emergency workers say Allbritton was stabbed multiple times around the head. Albritton’s stolen car was found on Monday, and witnesses reported seeing Justice driving it Sunday night.
"Our investigators found out he had prior contact with her,'' Edwards noted.
A check of records proved this wasn’t the first-time Justice had legal trouble. He was previously convicted on drug charges and spent time time in prison.
