A metro Atlanta man will spend 10 years in prison for coercing a 12-year-old North Carolina girl to send him nude photos of herself, prosecutors said.

Gerardo Perez Uribe, 32, of Rex, met the girl on Facebook in the summer of 2014, U.S. Attorney Byung Pak said. According to prosecutors, Uribe initially told the girl he was 13 years old, then later claimed to be 25.

Uribe asked the girl to send him nude pictures of herself, which she did in August 2014.

Shortly after that, Uribe took over the girl’s Facebook page, changed her password and locked her out of the account, Pak said. He told her he would post the nude photos on her Facebook page if she did not send him more.

“The victim believed Uribe’s threat and sent him four photographs of herself that met the federal definition of child pornography,” Pak said.

The girl’s parents found out and reported the crime to the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina. Authorities investigated the case and turned it over to the FBI once Uribe was found in Georgia.

Uribe pleaded guilty to the crime Aug. 24 and was sentenced Thursday. He will be deported after serving his prison sentence, Pak said. Additionally, he will be under 10 years of supervised release.

Uribe was born in Mexico, but was living in the United States as a permanent resident.
