A 40-year-old Coweta County man is headed to prison for a brutal attack on a woman.
Matthew Michael Cooney, 40, pleaded guilty to the July 2017 incident, documents show.
In the attack near a Kroger grocery store on Ga. 34, Cooney hit the victim several times in the face, causing her to lose several teeth, authorities said. He also broke the woman’s nose and eye socket.
He repeatedly hit the victim about her body, head and face until she appeared dead, according to the indictment.
Cooney pleaded guilty to criminal attempt to commit murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, aggravated stalking, two counts of terroristic threats, battery and simple battery, according to records.
The judge sentenced him to 25 years in prison and the next 15 on probation.
