A man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for molesting a teenage boy in Cherokee County after meeting him on a social media app, authorities announced Monday.

Antonio Harris, 43, began to serve his prison sentence last month after being convicted and sentenced in November, the Cherokee County District Attorney's Office said in a Facebook post. He pleaded guilty to aggravated child molestation.

In March 2018, a family member of the child came home to discover a stranger inside the home with the boy, the release said. The family member was able to provide the sheriff’s office with a description of the man, his car and its license plate number.

Before the incident, Harris had communicated with the child, whose age was not provided, through a social media app, the release said. The name of the specific app was also not provided.

This isn’t Harris’ first time in a Georgia prison. He had completed three stints in prison since 1995, totaling nearly nine years behind bars, according to Georgia Department of Corrections records.

His prior convictions include motor vehicle theft, theft by receiving, theft by shoplifting and impersonating another in Catoosa, Walker and Whitfield counties, GDC records show. His last prison sentence ended in 2010.

After he finishes his next 20 years in prison, Harris will spend the rest of his life on probation, according to Judge Tony Baker’s sentence. In addition, Harris will have to register as a sex offender.
