Man gets life sentence for molesting, attempting to rape child in Newton County

A Newton County man was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison Wednesday for attempting to rape a child younger than 10 years old, authorities said.

Christian Weir was convicted of aggravated sodomy, aggravated sexual battery, attempted rape and child molestation, the Newton County District Attorney's Office said in a Facebook post.

He was sentenced to 25 years of probation if he’s ever released from prison on parole, the post said. If he is released, he’ll also have to register as a sex offender.
