A man was found dead Wednesday in an empty parking lot in southeast Atlanta after gunshots were reported nearby, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Atlanta police were on their way to the parking lot on Richmond Avenue late Wednesday night when they got another call of a person down. The victim, who is in his 50s, was shot in the back, Lt. Andrea Webster told the news station.

He has not been identified. Investigators do not know if he was the intended target or just caught in the crossfire, Webster said. They are considering the case a homicide.

Officers checked the area overnight for any surveillance cameras that may have captured the shooting, Channel 2 reported.

The parking lot is located on the northern end of Richmond Avenue near the intersection with Lakewood Avenue.
