A man was shot and killed Sunday night as he was stopped at a red light across from a Buckhead shopping center, police said.
The victim was found dead inside his vehicle after gunshots were reported in the area of Peachtree Road and Peachtree Battle Avenue about 10 p.m.
He was shot in the chest, Atlanta police Lt. Pete Malecki told Channel 2 Action News.
“We believe at this point that a light-colored sedan had pulled up next to the victim while he was stopped at the light, and at some point occupants of that vehicle had engaged our victim with gunfire,” Malecki said from the scene.
The news station identified the victim as 33-year-old Demarcus Lee. He was a father of three girls, according to Channel 2.

Detectives are still working to determine what motivated the shooting. According to a police spokesman, it was not related to protests across the city Sunday night.
“Several firearms were recovered from the vehicle and the investigation is continuing,” Officer Steve Avery said in a statement.
Investigators are hoping surveillance footage from the nearby Peachtree Battle Promenade shopping center will give them a better idea of what happened.
