A man who had been on the run from child molestation charges since 2015 was recently arrested and extradited to Cobb County, authorities said.
Moises Bernal Ramirez, 67, of Temixco, Mexico, was handed over to Cobb deputies at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport last Wednesday so he could be booked into the county’s jail, records show. He’s accused of molesting two young girls over a six-year period.
Deputies obtained the child molestation warrants in October 2015, records show. Ramirez was accused of molesting the children since they were 11 and 4 years old. The alleged abuse took place at an apartment off Eastgate Circle.
After he initially molested the 11-year-old, he threatened that he would molest the younger child if she told anyone, the warrants said. However, he’s accused of molesting the 4-year-old anyway.
The older child was molested from 2005 to the end of 2006, while the younger girl was molested between 2005 and 2011, according to the warrants.
In a recent Facebook post, Sheriff Neil Warren announced that his deputies and U.S. marshals were able to track Ramirez to Temixco in January. The city is about 65 miles southwest of Mexico City.
U.S. marshals and Mexican federal police arrested Ramirez a few days later, and he waited until last week to be extradited to the U.S. to face his charges, the post said.
“The combined effort of the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Unit with the Task Force agents in Atlanta and Mexico brought this fugitive to justice after being on the run for four years,” Warren said in the post.
Ramirez remains in the Cobb County jail without bond, records show.
