Man dies after SUV enters oncoming traffic, crashes into tree

Nicholas Whitus, 35, died after his SUV went into oncoming traffic, traveled downhill and hit a tree.
A man died after his SUV wrecked in Austell about 2 p.m. Thursday, Cobb County police said.
Nicholas Whitus, 35, of Powder Springs, was traveling westbound on Garrett Road in his red 2005 GMC Sierra when he failed to stay in his lane while driving through a curve, Cobb County police spokeswoman Sarah O’Hara said in a news release.
Whitus traveled into oncoming traffic, went downhill and struck a tree, O’Hara said. No other cars were involved the crash.
Whitus was removed from his SUV and taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where he died.
No other details were released.
